A traditional split-system is comprised of 2 pieces of equipment, an outdoor condenser and an indoor air handler. The outdoor condensing equipment houses a condensing coil and compressor. An indoor air handler that houses an evaporator coil and blower fan.
Package System
A gas package system operates just like a split-system except, it's all wrapped up into one autonomous unit. It has all 3 major components: condenser, evaporator coil, and furnace in one big box, typically these units are on the rooftop. Gas package systems use electricity to operate the AC and gas to operate the furnace.
